Michela Musolino: Music

Bonagia

(Michela Musolino, Marco Cappelli, guitar & Kato Hideki, bass recorded in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY -)
2005-12-19
Traditional Sicilian text from an arrangement by Rocco Pollina
Bonagia is a tonnara in the provincia di Trapani. This song describes how the people of Bonagia lived
with the constant threat of pirate invasions; it is a story that haunts. This song was another gift from Umberto Leone of Selinunte. When he first sang it for me, we were gathered in his kitchen and as he sung, the sound of the sea rolled in through the open windows.

When I recently recorded this song with Marco Cappelli and Kato Hideki, I sang into a 1959 SonyC37-A Condenser microphone...rumor has it that it was the model favored by Sinatra ..read more about this amazing mic at this link: http://www.sony.net/Fun/SH/1-7/h1.html
